Schedule an appointment with our team and take the first step towards a healthier you.
Yes. Our DEXA scanner is of a high enough grade that the Radiological Council require us to have a referral for all scans.
This can be written by medical practitioners, nurse practitioners, nurses, chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists.
We have chiropractors and physiotherapists on our team, so let us know if we can help you with an in-house referral. These cost $10.
We can complete a Body Composition scan, which will show the distribution of muscle, fat, visceral fat, and other soft tissue. We can also do a Bone Densitometry scan which will show the density of your hips and lumbar spine. If you would like to do both during the same appointment, we can do that too.
A full Body Composition scan is $130
A Bone Densitometry scan is $130
If you’d like both a Body Composition and a Bone Densitometry scan in the same visit, that is $150
We allow 20 minutes for either a Body Composition or Bone Density scan, or 30 minutes for both.
Your DEXA report will be sent to you within a day of your scan. Depending on which scan/s you choose to have, you will be able to see your Body Composition and Bone Density analysis.
The Body Composition component includes muscle mass, fat mass, visceral fat (the toxic fat that can be around your organs), all broken down by each limb and area of your body as well as overall totals.
The Bone Density report will show the density of your hip and lumbar spine, which are both used to calculate your fracture risk and check for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis.
Our team can complete the diagnostic scans, but you will need to review these with your GP or specialist for further input and interpretation.
A DEXA scan is very safe, only exposing you to approximately 0.001 to 0.004 mSv of radiation per scan. As a comparison, an X-ray is about 0.1 mSv and a dental X-ray is about 0.005 mSv.
Yes absolutely. There is no danger with having metal in your body, but it is useful for us to know. The DEXA scan will pick up any firm materials and assume that they are bone. If you have metal in your body, like a plate or screws, they will increase your average bone density score.
While the radiation from a DEXA is very minor, we would not recommend having a scan if you are or suspect that you could be pregnant?
We are unfortunately unable to process Medicare rebates. These can only be processed if the scan is completed by a Radiologist.
There currently aren’t any private health funds who will cover the cost of a DEXA scan. We are hoping that this changes as health funds start seeing the value of preventative health.
The scanner bed is 80 cm wide with adequate lateral space to comfortably accommodate a range of body shapes. A clearance of approximately 40 cm is maintained between the bed surface and the overhead arm throughout operation.
This scanner weight load capacity is designed to safely accommodate all intended users.
